Project Experience

Mr. Rockwell has been consulting extensively with key accounts to help them make the shift to Internet/Intranet technologies. His involvement ranges from high level specific technology consulting to project management and hands-on configuration and application development.

For several dot-com’s he has helped them architect and deliver digital marketplace solutions.

For a healthcare infometrics ISV, Mr. Rockwell developed an Microsoft .Net print job processing capability that utilizes ASP.Net, .Net Windows Forms, and a .Net Windows Service.

For a health care system he developed a web based project office application. The application allowed all project managers, executives, and other interested parties to have up-to-the-minute information about project status of over 60 projects. The system acted as a central repository for project collateral.

For a Midwest steel fabricator Mr. Rockwell architected and developed a web based application that allowed contractors to enter orders for girders, joists, decking, and fasteners on-line, reducing lead time from six to two weeks. The application checked the order against engineering requirements and validated that the ordered parts meet with building guidelines.

For a computer services company Mr. Rockwell architected and lead a development team to build and Internet based knowledge repository. The site is dynamic and stateless yet allowing very sophisticated interaction with the user. The site utilizes Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Internet Information Server 4, SQL Server 6.5, Certificate Server, SMTP, NNTP, LDAP, Internet Locator Server, NetShow. The site pays special attention to security by utilizing SSL, Certificates, transaction logging and monitoring, and dynamic content availability. http://servicepoint.ctg.com/

For a major forms manufacturer Mr. Rockwell provided data migration services to replatform DB2/2 1.2 databases to IBM Universal Database running under Windows NT. This migration occurred in a short over night window so as not to affect 160 OS/2 based customer service agents. The database was also tuned and provisioned to allow rapid expansion. The conversion also prepared the way for a conversion of the center from OS/2 to Windows 95.

For the state of New York Mr. Rockwell converted a FoxPro based application to be an Internet based application. The entire conversion was achieved in less than one week. http://205.232.252.23/adweb/default.asp

For a major manufacturer Mr. Rockwell architected and directed a team to convert an OS/2 based E-Business site which accounts for $1.7 billion annually in sales to run under Windows NT. The conversion simplified the support requirements such that the support team could be reduced from three persons to one.

For the Monroe County PreTrial Service Mr. Rockwell developed a client/server defendant management system. The project involved reengineering an 8 year old DOS based small workgroup application to be a Windows 95 based many user client/server system. The client is very pleased with the intuitive, high performance, scaleable design of the system.

Mr. Rockwell automated the call centers for a major semiconductor manufacturer using state-of-the-art Computer Telephone Integration technology. This work resulted in cost effective highly efficient call centers for his client. The system received an unexpected load test when a flaw was discovered in the clients CPU products. The system handled the load well.

Mr. Rockwell architected, designed and managed an object-oriented client/server development project for a big three long-distance telecommunications company. The project managed development and management teams in three separate geographical locations (Arlington, VA; Colorado Springs, CO and Atlanta, GA). Mr. Rockwell facilitated this by using Lotus Notes as the tool to allow these groups to pass work between each other. The project utilized the Coad-Yourdon Object-Oriented Analysis and Design methodology. The application was then built under OS/2 2.x using C-Set ++, Database Manager, and Communications Manager. Named Pipes, TCP/IP, and APPC communications were all used for network communications protocols. The project heavily utilized the WorkPlace shell (SOM) features of OS/2 2.x. He also helped the client to deploy Lotus Notes throughout the organization. He identified projects where Lotus Notes would be good candidates, designed and built Lotus Notes add-on functions, using the Lotus Notes API toolkit, and also specified network architecture and configuration needed for a robust Lotus Notes infrastructure.

For a major Midwestern bank Mr. Rockwell provided the capability to quickly process and turn around customer loan applications by architecting and building a document preparation system with fax back capabilities. The system is a suite of client-server applications running under IBM OS/2 2.0 over LAN Server 2.0. The system allows branch offices to immediately fax customer loan applications into a regional direct lending center. The loan applications are then submitted to a CICS based credit rating system.

The loan is rated and an approval or denial, along with all relevant data, is automatically sent to the document preparation system. The document preparation system generates all required loan forms and faxes them back to the branch at 300x300 DPI without human intervention. The branches are equipped with special fax machines, which accept the high-resolution transmission and print the document set on plain paper. The system is capable of processing and faxing up to 8 loans simultaneously. The system is designed to be easily expanded to handle more fax machines by simply adding more client computers and fax machines to the system. The system has allowed the bank to reduce the time it takes to turn around a loan from 22 days to 2 hours.

For a large pharmaceutical company, Mr. Rockwell developed implementation plans to install a number of IBM departmental Token Ring Domains are interconnected via spanning tree bridging to both AS/400 and 3090 hosts. He provided strategic planning advice and laid out a growth path for enterprise-wide LAN's. He developed courses and mentored MIS regarding LANs and the network architecture. He also developed specialized client-server applications using OS/2 LAN Server APIs.

For a large personal information service targeted towards novice users, he participated in the design and implementation of a graphic-based, object oriented protocol, for rapid delivery of the service to home PCs. He developed portions of a 56Kb gateway application that connected to a major airlines reservation system. He was also a DBA and developer of a series of TSO applications running under ISPF/PDF, which make dynamic SQL calls to DB2 to store, update, create, and report on delivery system objects.

He was also one of the key architects of a LAN that connected all of application development. Bridges were also installed to other LAN's in the company and to the mainframe. He then developed several utility and development tools for use on the LAN.

Mr. Rockwell also worked on the development of an OS/2 based workstation that utilized object-oriented programming and most of the OS/2 extended features. Afterwards he co-developed a CASE tool used in the development and tracking of over 1000 service screens, each having dozens of screen elements. Screen information as well as version and dependency information is kept in a SQL database. The system tracks all changes and then updates dependent documentation and objects as require. The system allowed the company to reduce the number of maintenance programmers from nine to four.

Finally, Mr. Rockwell developed an Executive Information System (EIS) for the system and applications testing department. He was selected to do this because of his knowledge of systems and applications testing. He has developed and conducted numerous test plans.

For a major chemical manufacturer, Mr. Rockwell developed a complete telemarketing service bureau. He designed the center, installed the LAN and hardware, wrote custom marketing and accounting software, and trained the staff. The center exceeded all revenue projections and paid for itself in three months. Before that, he connected a leading envelope manufacturers plant, administrative office, and home office via LAN and PC to mainframe technology. Mr. Rockwell developed special software to track manufacturing and inventory in real time. By using LAN technology, he was able to reduce the annual data processing cost resulting in a greater amount of profit sharing being paid to the employees.
